Praise

Praise is good. We all love to be recognized for a job well done, and we derive great satisfaction in doing it.

False praise sends a harmful message. Children build resilience when they bounce back from a screw up. If they are given praise for not doing their best, they begin to accept that second best is enough. Participation trophies say “everyone’s a winner,” rather than allowing kids to experience the sting of defeat.

Praise others often when given the opportunity. But only offer praise that’s deserved…

If you believe everything you see on social media, you might think that everyone’s life is perfect. It’s not. We show people the outside, not the pain, the hurts, struggles and worries of life. Remember this when interacting with others. We don’t know what’s going on inside…

Our Future…

Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders. We are failing them. In 2016, suicide became the #2 killer of kids. In 2020 a study revealed that 78% of students felt lonely. It’s ironic that so many kids could feel lonely. We live in the most technologically connected culture ever.

The solution? One thing we can do is make certain our children feel loved and accepted. Hold them accountable for their actions, but don’t let them feel unloved because they made a mistake or two.

We must turn this around, and fast. It begins with us…

Kindness Matters…

Every person you encounter has something troubling them. You probably will not see it on the surface level, but that doesn’t make it less real. Slow down and show kindness to everyone, even the people who don’t deserve it. They need kindness shown to them the most, and you will benefit as well…

Angry People…

Rainy Days…

I love the rain. We seldom see much rain in Texas, so perhaps the rarity of rain makes me appreciate it more. It’s the same with the people we are grateful for in our lives. Let’s make sure they know they are appreciated and loved by our actions…
