Ironic, Isn’t It?

Every day is National “Something” Day, and January 2nd in National Buffet Day. Seriously. On the very first day most people have vowed to regain their health by beginning an exercise program, we have a day honoring food gluttony.

Personally I’m not a big fan of buffets. I’m not sure why. Las Vegas Casinos advertise them as a means to get people into their casino rather than another. The casinos aren’t doing the consumers any favors. They understand that the gamblers will lose way more money than it costs to practically give away food.

On the other hand, I do believe in exercise. Anything we can do to improve our health and our lives gets a big yes from me. Don’t get me wrong, I love to eat. I’m a believer in eating real food to feed your body. You need to eat when exercising or you won’t get the results you want.

My encouragement to you is to put the fork away and take care of yourself instead. Your future self will thank you for it…

Healthy Eating

We really are what we eat. Food companies have been adding fillers to our food for decades, and not everything they add is good for us. Some of them create cravings in the brain, almost creating an addiction.

Good, healthy food will lengthen your life. You will feel better and your exercise program will benefit, too! Organic foods might cost a little more, but they are inexpensive when you consider the value of your life…

Activity

Our culture has become addicted to their screens. We constantly have our heads buried in a phone or a laptop. I’m not just talking about adults, either. Kids are doing it, too.

Our minds and bodies aren’t meant to be totally absorbed in information. We need interactions with other people, and we need physical activity.

Technology is a necessary component of our lives. Yet it should not dominate our time. I encourage you to get outside, enjoy some sunshine every day and get physically active. Pay attention to how different you feel afterwards. Try it for 21 days and let me know what happens…

Wellness Check

People are struggling nowadays more than I ever remember or imagined. Many feel alone, like they have no one to talk to. Some feel ashamed because they have never experienced the emotional turbulence they are experiencing. If you feel like I’m describing you, I want you to know that you are not alone.

I encourage you to reach out to someone. Anyone. There are crisis hotlines you can call anonymously. Talk to someone. There’s something magical about talking things out. You get some peace, even for a short while.

If you haven’t heard from someone you normally would, give them a call. You might be their last, best hope…

Ageless

In Austin, Texas, it seems like there is a plastic surgeon’s office on every street corner. People are spending tremendous amounts of money trying to stave off the aging process.

If you truly want to age in reverse, get some exercise 4-5 times per week. Mix it up so it stays interesting. Push yourself, but do not over exert your body. Lift weights and do Pilates. Take a “before” picture and then take another in three months. You will notice a considerable difference…

Medicated

It seems like every third commercial on television is a drug commercial. “Have you ever felt depressed? Try Abilify.” We are being brainwashed into believing pills will solve our problems. They won’t.

There’s a tremendous amount of credible research dating back to the 1940’s which shows the efficacy of psychedelics in treating depression, anxiety and addiction. I’m not surprised they are illegal because the pharmaceutical industry has the largest lobby in Washington DC. Get the connection?

There are people who need antidepressants for chemical depression. There’s no shame in that. But we can control our health through diet and exercise. And we value our health more when we earn it.

Let’s turn the tables on the pharmaceutical industry and reclaim our health naturally. We earn it…

Overwhelming

When you take a step back and observe the challenges our world faces, it can be overwhelming. That’s not a valid reason to give up solving them before even trying.

Hunger, homelessness and mental health must be addressed one person at a time. It takes collective effort from all of us. We can make a difference. It begins with believing we can…

Good Health…

Good health is within your reach if you really want it. Get plenty of rest, eat good, natural foods, exercise for an hour every day, read good books and articles, and take time to connect with other people. You will live longer and feel better. The choice is ours…

Reach Out…

We are in the final stages of the pandemic, and that’s something to be grateful for. Yet the damage to mental health rages on. Reach out to your friends and family, work colleagues and acquaintances to see how they are doing. Really doing. And if you aren’t feeling just right, please find someone to talk to. There is light on the other side of the dark…
