Time Spent

Who do you spend your time with? Are your conversations with them engaging, or are they focused on pointing out problems and filling your life with negativity?

Time is our most valuable commodity. We only have a certain amount of time to make a difference in the world. Our friends should be people who inspire us and bring out the best in us. And we have an obligation to do the same for them.

Be protective of your time spent with others. It’s better to get wrapped up in a great book than to waste your time with the wrong people. They will always be there if you choose to go back…

Worth

Do you value yourself? You are worth so much, and we oftentimes don’t consider our true value.

Our brains make over 25,000 independent decisions per second. Mind boggling, isn’t it? Our bodies are physical marvels in the way they work without us commanding them to. But there’s more.

Our worth is found in recognizing that a perfect God created us. In fact, God thought of every single one of us before the earth was formed. If that doesn’t blow your mind, I don’t know what will.

People search for their worth through their zip codes, bank balances, their position and power. These are hollow and will not fill the void. Unfulfilled, people turn to unhealthy habits to numb the pain.

Find your value in healthy habits. The world will still be here…

Companion

Everyone needs people, good people in their lives. You know who I’m referring to. I’m talking about people who tell us what we need to hear, not what we want to hear. We have acquaintances for surface conversations.

Loneliness is a companion for many. So is the darkness of the night. People are struggling to get through life and all it’s challenges.

If you are reading this and feel like you are stuck, you aren’t. Step into the light. Feel it’s warmth all through your body. Let hope spring forth from deep inside your spirit. It’s there. Find it…

Successful People

Have you heard of people who are called an “overnight success?” Usually those are people in the entertainment business. But there is no success that happens overnight, regardless of the industry.

We see the outcomes, the great achievements. What we don’t see are the lonely times, the failures, the inner doubts and frustrations. Successful people continue trying when things aren’t going well. They simply refuse to accept defeat.

To be successful, you must find what you are meant to do and be willing to work when others aren’t…

GPS

My car came equipped with a Global Positioning System, commonly known as a GPS. I’m not sure how I ever figured my way to my destination before, but I guess I was somehow successful.

Many people are wandering aimlessly through life. They don’t need a GPS because any road they go down will allow them to wander and roam. But we aren’t meant to live without purpose. We are hardwired for more.

If you are searching for your purpose, take inventory of what you are good at, and what you enjoy doing. This is how God made you. Once you figure out your greater purpose, use The Bible as your GPS…

Our Post-Pandemic World

In the past several months, I have heard from so many people who are struggling with anxiety, depression and feelings they haven’t felt before. The common theme with each of them has been, “I don’t understand why I feel this way. I’ve never been like this before.”

God prompted me to remind them of what we have dealt with since 2020. Isolation has shredded mental health and created new, unhealthy neural pathways. We are hardwired to be in relationship with each other. This goes beyond loneliness. We are experiencing a mental health crisis that’s worse than the pandemic. More people than ever are feeling hopeless and taking their own lives.

If you are reading this and are experiencing similar feelings, please reach out to someone. Your life is precious and has purpose. None of that has changed because of a virus.

The Suicide Prevention Hotline is 988. It’s confidential, free, and it might be the lifeline you need…

Columbine

On the morning of April 20, 1999 two dark and disturbed young men ended the lives of 12 students and one teacher before the two murderers took their own lives. At the time, the Columbine High School massacre was the largest school shooting in American history.

From this unthinkable tragedy, an organization was born: Rachel’s Challenge. Rachel Scott was the first child killed that day, but she did not die in vain. Her impact on the lives of others lives on. Over 30 million people have experienced her story, thousands of youth suicides have been prevented, and at least 8 documented copycat school shootings have been averted.

After Rachel’s Challenge is introduced into a school, the school becomes a safer, better-connected community. Students are no longer trying to learn in a “fight or flight” environment. I proudly serve on the board of Rachel’s Challenge. Check it out here:

The Past

Do you know anyone who spends much of their time focusing on days gone by? All of us have fond memories of past events, but that’s what they are, just memories.

Some things from our pasts are hard times we went through. They were lessons to be learned along the road of life. Learn them and move on. Leave them where they belong, in the past.

Every day is an opportunity to create more fond memories. Remember to focus on the good in your life. Be grateful for something every day. Leave the past in the past and look forward with both eyes open…
