One Way

Have you ever been completely convinced about something, only to learn you had been wrong all the time? I believe if we are willing to admit it, all of us would answer “yes.”

There are multiple perspectives on any given subject. You don’t like someone’s politics? That’s fine, but take a moment to consider things from their point of view. It isn’t a threat to your convictions, but your worldview will expand when you consider others beliefs along with your own.

The only immutable truth is God’s word. Everything else is up for healthy debate…

Go Through

All of us have challenges in our lives. Some pass quickly, while some are longer term. What do we do when faced with obstacles?

We might be tempted to avoid facing the challenges of life. We can numb them out with alcohol or drugs, put them off until tomorrow, or we can work through them.

Going through difficult periods is rarely easy or quick. We learn from them, though, when we face them and go through them. The trials of life might last a few days, but they might go on for years.

Whatever you are facing, I encourage you to not give up. You will find victory over your challenges, but you find it through perseverance and determination. Just keep going…

Animals

I love animals. Always have. When I was a kid, my mutt dog “Chipper” was my closest confidante.

Animals have a heightened awareness of their instincts. They must listen to their inner voice to survive in some situations. When a storm is coming, animals go to safety well before the storm arrives. It’s pretty cool, actually.

Pay attention to animals when they meet someone new. If your normally friendly dog acts aggressively towards someone, this tells you everything you need to know about that person.

We have instincts, too. Use them…

The TikTok Generation

TikTok has robbed us of our ability to focused like a laser beam. The short, oftentimes entertaining videos hit the pleasure spot in the brain, so we keep scrolling. we are consciously rewiring our brains.

I encourage you to wean yourself off most social media. Replace TikTok with a book. Take back your mind…

Used

Have you ever been used by someone? I believe we all have been used at one time or another. It hurts to know you were meaningless to another person.

Users have a different type of personality disorder. They can rationalize their sick behavior, never acknowledging the pain and carnage they leave in their wake. They simply move on to their next prey.

Here’s a counterintuitive way to deal with the users. Pray for them. Honestly pray for them. Prayer changes you, whether they change or not…

Patterns

Our brains are wired to look for patterns when we are experiencing something new. Familiarity makes us feel secure. We try to fit the experience into an already-formed neural pathway.

We do this in relationships, too. We invite, usually unknowingly, the same type people into our lives. The person might look different from the rest, but their inner being is the same.

We must do the hard work on ourselves to break unhealthy patterns. If this sounds familiar to you, it is my hope that you find the courage to change…

Learning

When I was in school, I received a report card that showed my supposed knowledge in the subjects I was studying. My grades reflected the first four letters of the alphabet. I mostly received B’s and C’s, along with an occasional A or D. I was labeled as an average student.

I have never considered myself to be average. I refused to accept that label. My ability to connect and communicate with people was not graded, but I excelled in human connection. There are other types of knowledge than book knowledge. Personality and adaptability are more highly correlated with success than intelligence.

My grades went up in college. It turns out I loved to learn. I just needed the right environment.

Whatever grades you received in school, be sure you don’t degrade yourself…

Educated

Most people like to think of themselves as smart. In many ways they are. There are other types of intelligence than IQ.

We should focus on educating ourselves on the important issues of today. There are opinions everywhere, and opinions are fine but what is the basis for them?

Educate yourself. Learn. Be open-minded, willing to change as your level of understanding evolves…

Teachers

Today is National Teacher Day in the United States. So first off, thank you to all of the dedicated, devoted teachers worldwide.

The best teaching moments are in the home. We, as parents, should model behavior for our children. Characteristics like kindness, forgiveness, compassion and honesty are best taught by example, not by forced behavior.

Our children are watching us all the time. Let’s make sure our words and actions align…
