Pretenders
Did you ever play make believe games when you were a child? I certainly did. I would put a cape on and pretend I was Superman. One time I jumped off the roof of our house and pretended to fly. It didn’t end well…
Some people continue make believe into adulthood. They might act a little greater than they really are, trying to impress others.
Allowing other people to see the real you is freeing. It’s true that some people might not like you, but it doesn’t matter. You have to like you, and that requires being comfortable with who you are.
So accept yourself as you are while constantly trying to improve yourself. God created you and me, so we are good enough…
Consistency
Do you change who you are to fit in with the crowd? Don’t do it.
You were created to be uniquely you. Be proud of who you are. And if you feel like the group doesn’t accept you, that’s fine. It’s not your group…
Dividing Lines
The news media and the politicians like to point out our differences to keep us divided. Don’t fall for it.
The truth is, everyone is unique. Even identical twins have different fingerprints! Another truth is, we are more alike than we are different…
Courageous
Everyone has fears. Most of them are irrational and get built up inside our heads as impossible to overcome.
Get out of your head and get into life. There is freedom beyond fear. Have courage…
I Dare You!
Do you remember being dared to do stupid stuff when you were a kid? And do you remember actually taking the dare, even though you knew it would turn out badly? Stupid pride said we had to do it.
Now I will dare you to do something! I dare you to dream big, even outrageous dreams for your life. Then take a step, even a small one in the direction of your dream. And keep stepping. And no matter how many times you stumble and fall, keep getting back up. No one can keep you down except yourself.
Thank You
I have observed an increase in rudeness over the past several years. Simple niceties like opening doors and saying ‘thank you’ are becoming rarer and rarer. I’m guessing this is because we are busier than we’ve ever been, but that doesn’t make it acceptable.
To all of my followers who read my work, thank you! I appreciate every one of you. You have a choice in how you spend your time, and I’m honored you spend a few moments with me…
Daily Evaluation
Do you take time to evaluate yourself at the end of your day? Ask yourself some questions: was I judgmental today? Was I easy to work with? Was I kind to myself when I made a mistake,
Self-evaluation allows us to see how we are doing. It gives us an opportunity to reflect on our growth as a man or woman. And we can find the areas we want to improve in…
Convenience
Much of our world is consumed by convenience. We have convenience stores, instant messaging and docusign to make our lives easier…more convenient.
While we are cramming more and more into our already busy lives through these conveniences, we might be missing out on human interaction. True connection with others is vital to our well being. Something to consider…
The Crowd
Several years ago my youngest son was going down the wrong path. Many people who knew him simply said, “he’s hanging out with the wrong crowd.” I refuse to accept that as more than an excuse. After all, he had to choose the crowd.
We have control over who we allow into our lives. No one can make us associate with them.
I’m happy to report my son got his life on track and is thriving. I’m proud of him and the inner work he has done. And guess what? His crowd has improved, too!
