Reading

From the time I was a little boy, I loved to read. Reading books took me on great adventures and opened my mind to endless creative possibilities. Still to this day my desire to read remains. Many people consider my way to be old-fashioned, but I do what works for me. I average a book a week across all genres. I encourage you to take up the habit of reading. I believe it will be of great benefit to you…

The Perils of Leadership

Leadership means doing what’s right, even when you must stand alone. You will not be the most popular person when you lead others. Critics are everywhere and should be welcomed. The critics have a problem for everything, while leaders are searching for solutions.

If you are called to lead, lead well without compromise. Let your vision be clear. Just keep going…

Patience…

It’s said that patience is a virtue, but I see it as an opportunity when we practice patience. Why do we get upset or angry when traffic is moving slowly. Or if the checkout line at the grocery store is long? These opportunities, and other similar circumstances allow us to slow down, notice the people around us, and perhaps take time to engage with them. Our culture is a culture of busyness, not human connection. We need to connect with others…and stop rushing through life.

Equipment

You may have heard it said that “God doesn’t call the equipped, but he equips the called.” All of us are uniquely qualified for a greater purpose. God gives us the choice to use it or not. Don’t wait until you’re “ready.” Be fearless. Find your purpose. Use it…

Fear

Not all fear is bad. We are hardwired to feel fearful in dangerous situations. But the fear of failure, fear of success (yes, it exists) and fear of other people’s judgments is unhealthy. It will leave us unfulfilled and frustrated. If you are fearful, do the work on yourself to release the fear and live fully. Self-work isn’t easy, but it’s worth it…

Activity

It has become an honor to be known as the busiest person around. Has this become the culture of America? I hope not. We must make time for what matters most: people. If we gain wealth but have no real friends and our family merely tolerates us, we aren’t winning the game of life. Examine your focus. Recommit to the people who care about you…

Spectator Sports

I love watching great athletes. My dream when I was a teenager was to play safety in the NFL. My dream wasn’t to become a reality because I didn’t possess the physical gifts to play at that level. So I’m content being a spectator.

Life isn’t a spectator sport, though. We must get in the game every day and give it everything we have. All of us are gifted in some special way. You know your talents. Use them for the benefit of others. You will benefit, too…
