Echoes of the Past

Creating wonderful experiences with your friends and family turns into beautiful memories. They not only give us something to remember fondly, but we feel encouraged to create more of them.

Have you ever heard of triggers? Triggers are stimuli that cause a sudden, intense emotional reaction. The mind stores everything. Triggers are oftentimes a warning signal. The mind is trying to protect us from something even when we don’t understand what is going on.

The holidays can trigger me. From my observation there are many like me. Don’t misunderstand, I love the holidays but they evoke memories of disappointment. Perhaps the Christmas movies set a false expectation. On the other hand, those perfect holiday films give us something to strive for. We must keep believing.

I snap out of my funk by doing for others. Selecting thoughtful gifts for my children brings me great joy. I believe that when we are giving of ourselves we reflect the light of our Creator. Thinking of others removes our selfish nature.

Unresolved traumas can bring ugly echoes of the past. I encourage you to work through them. It’s not easy, but anything worthwhile never is. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, and you’ll get there…

The Great Escape

Are you running from something? Maybe an unsafe situation, an ex, or perhaps you are running from yourself.

As a young adult, I couldn’t wait to get away from my family home and leave my dysfunctional past behind. I threw myself into making money and chasing women. My pursuit of both had no limits, and I was pretty good at both. But I was empty. No matter how much success I had in the business world, it was never enough. Same with women.

We can run from ourselves but we can’t escape who we are running from. I really didn’t like myself but my ego refused to recognize it that way. Arrogance blinded me. God humbled me. Only through psychotherapy was I able to recognize why I made the poor choices of my past. When I took ownership of my part I changed. And I became free from the trauma of my childhood and my fucked up history after childhood.

Today, I am free to be who God created me to be, who I am. Now I’m ready to be used for whatever God has in store for me.

Stay tuned…

Triggers

Trigger’s have meaning beyond being part of a gun. Triggers are something that create an unexpected emotional reaction. They can be events, situations, or even people.

A personal trigger for me is lying. I was lied to as a child, so this one runs deep in me. When I hear a lie, it does something to me I can’t describe. I get angry, disgusted and hurt all at the same time. I get over it, but my ability to trust the person who lied has been compromised.

Think about your own personal triggers. Then commit to understanding where they come from. Be ready, because you will gain insight into yourself…

See Your Way Through

What are you afraid of? People’s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death! I’m not kidding.

Whatever you fear, I encourage you to face it. It’s something inside of you, somewhere beneath the surface. The fear inside is stopping you from living fully. It takes a brave person to dig in and work through things. But you can do it, and you don’t have to do it alone.

See your way through. There is more life waiting for you on the other side…
