Convenience

Much of our world is consumed by convenience. We have convenience stores, instant messaging and docusign to make our lives easier…more convenient.

While we are cramming more and more into our already busy lives through these conveniences, we might be missing out on human interaction. True connection with others is vital to our well being. Something to consider…

The Crowd

Several years ago my youngest son was going down the wrong path. Many people who knew him simply said, “he’s hanging out with the wrong crowd.” I refuse to accept that as more than an excuse. After all, he had to choose the crowd.

We have control over who we allow into our lives. No one can make us associate with them.

I’m happy to report my son got his life on track and is thriving. I’m proud of him and the inner work he has done. And guess what? His crowd has improved, too!

Simpler Times

Sometimes I hear people say they long for an earlier time when life was simpler. But was life really easier?

Technology has sped up the pace of life so we can accomplish more each day. We text rather than call. Email instead of writing letters. We don’t even have to walk over to the television to change the channel anymore!

One thing that hasn’t changed is the need for human connection. We are hardwired to have relationships. There is no technology that replaces a connection…

Stuff

So-called “influencers” on social media get revered for their cool toys, exotic travel and the appearance of a life everyone else wants. But is it real?

Real life doesn’t live on the internet. It exists in the homes of everyday families creating a life of routine. Families doing family stuff doesn’t seem as extravagant as a fast drive down the Autobahn in an Aston Martin.

But this is where life is lived, no matter the size of your home or what zip code it’s in. All the other is just stuff, and stuff doesn’t last. Life lasts…

Seek Help

We are independent, aren’t we? Self-sufficiency is a sign that you’ve “made it.”

Yet the struggles of daily life remain. Sometimes the challenges we face may seem insurmountable. We try to face it alone because we’re capable of taking care of ourselves.

There may be times when we need help. There’s no shame in seeking someone to come alongside you to help you through a difficult period. In fact, it demonstrates strength to know when you need others.

You are not alone, unless you choose to be…

How We Treat Others

Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Sounds easy, right? But some people can be downright difficult to treat kindly.

I have to ask myself, am I one of those people? Am I stubborn, ill-tempered or rude? If the answer is yes, then I need to work on myself. We will treat others in the way we love ourselves.

A healthy self-acceptance will be reflected by our words and our actions. Take inventory, and corrective action if necessary…

Teachers

Today is National Teacher Day in the United States. So first off, thank you to all of the dedicated, devoted teachers worldwide.

The best teaching moments are in the home. We, as parents, should model behavior for our children. Characteristics like kindness, forgiveness, compassion and honesty are best taught by example, not by forced behavior.

Our children are watching us all the time. Let’s make sure our words and actions align…

Keep Going…

We live in an imperfect world, where failures, frustrations and setbacks come our way. It seems like every time we get our lives together we only get knocked down again.

That’s okay. No matter what you see on social media, everyone has struggles. The most perfect-looking people are dealing with stuff we don’t know about. It’s important to remember, we are in this beautiful life together. Encourage others. Strengthen them. And when you find yourself in a battle, keep going, no matter what…

My Interview With Melissa Fleming

There is no word to describe the loss of a child. I believe it’s too painful to describe.
In 2016, Melissa Fleming and her family were given the worst news imaginable. Their son, Brock, was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Not quite 7 at the time, Brock couldn’t understand why he was the only kid in school with brain cancer. Yet, Brock wasn’t deterred. He wanted to “kick cancer in the nuts!”
Click on the link to watch how this brave family dealt with the loss of a child, and how they are continuing Brock’s desire to kick it in the nuts!
