Faithful

As children, we were taught to never lie, cheat or steal. Not everyone took to the teaching.

If someone lies, cheats, steals or participates in any type immoral behavior, they might get away with it. A short-term “success” of this kind does long-term damage to the individual. Their self-esteem takes the hit.

Staying faithful through tough situations is hard. But the situation will pass, and remaining solid will build you into a better, stronger person. Stay faithful…

Cockiness

Cockiness is unattractive. You know the type of person I’m referring to. Someone who brags about themselves, who has to “one-up” any accomplishments others have. Cocky people are insecure about themselves and their worth.

Confidence is attractive. People who quietly show strength of character, who do the work but don’t care who gets the credit are the type of people I surround myself with. They inspire me.

If you find yourself in a situation where you feel the need to brag, remember that it’s not about you…

Hidden In Plain Sight

“And I don’t want the world to see me, ‘cause I don’t think that they’d understand, when everything’s made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am”…from the song “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls.

Doesn’t this hit home with most of us? People put on a nice front, but deep down we want others to see us for who we are. Fear of judgment or not being accepted can be hindrances to showing the world our true selves.

Have no fear or trepidation about being yourself. God created you exactly how He wanted you to be. We still have an obligation to be and do our best. But if you are good enough for God, you are good enough…

Loyalty

Loyalty is a value I place high on people whom I allow into my inner circle of friends. And it’s not that hard to be loyal. Standing firm in allegiance to your family and friends should be part of who you are.

Lance Armstrong cheated because he wanted to win a bike race. One-fifth of men cheat on their spouse, while 13% of women do the same. If you have been the victim of a cheater, I’m sorry. And I encourage you not to project that experience onto others. You might miss bringing some really good people into your life…

Recognition

We live in a “look at me” culture. Being the center of attention has overtaken common sense in some cases. Do you remember the so-called “influencer” who videoed himself licking a public toilet bowl? He has no influence over me.

Focus on doing what’s right, being kind and compassionate without worrying about getting the attention. These characteristics never go out of style…
