Oops!

Have you ever said something and instantly regretted it? If we are being honest, we all have. And we will again!

When you find yourself in this position, apologize immediately. Don’t make excuses such as, “I’m having a bad day.” The excuse just takes away from the apology. It doesn’t excuse bad behavior.

Try to take the high road. Always. But when you go low, make amends…

An Uncomfortable Truth

You’ve probably heard the saying, “people are doing the best they can.” That’s usually not true.

Don’t get me wrong. I have great compassion for working families who are doing everything they can to make ends meet and hold it together. I’m talking about the people who have been given great gifts, yet don’t fully utilize them. I’m referring to the people who choose television over human connection. Those who aren’t giving their best.

Everyone procrastinates. Don’t let procrastination become a way of life and miss your true calling…

Failure

We fail at things every day. But how you define failure will determine if you really have failed or not.

Your failures don’t define you unless you allow them to. Having a success mindset means you are willing to accept some failures along the way. When you understand this, you will be free of the fear of failure and you become unstoppable.

What to Say

Have you ever been in a situation where you feel like you need to say something, but you don’t know what to say? I believe most, if not all of us have been.

In 2008, I learned that a friend of mine’s daughter had just committed suicide. It was heartbreaking. She was sweet, kind, and had a beautiful heart. I knew I had to call him, but I had no idea what I would say. I made the call, telling my friend, “ I don’t know what to say, but I wanted you to hear from me. I love you, and you are in my thoughts.” Truly, I’m sure I stumbled through the words. I was really uncomfortable.

A while later, my friend told me how much the call had meant to him. He also said he was surprised by some of the people who didn’t call.

So, if you find yourself in a situation where you don’t know what to say, remember that less is more. Make the call…

Shiny Toys

When your covet the next cool new thing, it only leads to dissatisfaction and disappointment.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting nice stuff, nothing at all. Having a nice home, eating at great restaurants and going to wonderful resorts for vacation is part of why we work.

When getting more and more becomes our god, then we have replaced the real God with idols. Keep your focus on things above. He will provide what we need

Anger

There are two types of anger, irrational anger and righteous anger.

Irrational anger is fear-based. You get mad because someone cuts you off in traffic, or someone acts rudely to you. There is no legitimate reason for either of those situations to make you angry.

We should rage with anger when we see human suffering. People who are trafficked, hungry and broken should stir something within us. Collectively we can unite our anger and do something about compromised people. It begins with me…

Greed

The culture of The United States has become greed. Get more, be more and you are worth more, right?

The consequences of a greedy lifestyle are poor emotional and physical health. Relationships are compromised. People sacrifice quality of life for quantity, yet they never find contentment.

Contentment brings peace into your life. It allows you to see the value you have in the world by your mere presence. Contentment doesn’t take the place of ambition. It puts it in perspective…
