Stillness

Our world is full of noise. We have news 24/7, and we feel like if we aren’t busy then our lives have no meaning or purpose.

This is not true. Our purpose doesn’t change in the stillness. In fact, in the quiet moments our thinking becomes more crystal clear than in the chaos. We have an opportunity in those moments to connect with our Creator. He’s talking to us constantly, but we don’t listen because the noise is louder. God often speaks in whispers.

Make time for stillness in your life. Practice it every day. The noise will be waiting for you…

When

Are you waiting for everything to align perfectly before you begin your life’s dream? I encourage you to stop waiting and start doing. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin.

Take a step in the direction of your dreams. Then take another. Expect things to go awry sometimes. You will redirect and be back on track! Just begin…

Try It!

Remember when you were a kid and learning what foods you liked? People would say, “try it you might like it.” To this day, I wish I had never tried barbecue or Tex-Mex. My waistline battle would be much easier!

When you start something new, you aren’t proficient in it immediately. It takes time. None of us walked perfectly when we first started, but we didn’t quit.

Trying something new is adventurous. You might not learn to play guitar as well as Eric Clapton, but you will reach a skill level of proficiency if you stick with it. I encourage you to start on the ideas you hold in your mind and heart. Stay with it when setbacks come. Let your confidence build. Try it today…

Black and White

Some people like to deal in absolutes. They are rigid in their thinking and their beliefs with no room for margin. I find those types of people to be difficult to work with.

The world is not black and white, it’s gray. We can learn from each other, but only if we are willing.

I encourage you to open your mind and your heart. Try to see things through the eyes of others. It’s not a threat to your beliefs, but a way to expand your worldview…

The Limelight

We experience great, even phenomenal performances by gifted athletes, musicians, actors and speakers. Their God-given talents appear to be effortless.

Behind every great performance lies hours and hours of preparation. Many lonely times and frustrating setbacks are part of their journey. Yet they press on.

Everything we see in the limelight was prepared in the dark, sometimes in the darkest of times…

Painful

Pain is a tool, and pain has a purpose. No one escapes life on this side of eternity without experiencing pain.

Oftentimes we hide our pain from the world. We want everyone to believe we “have it all together.” But when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable and openly share what we are going through, it creates intimacy with others. Our challenges in life can be used to encourage and inspire others.

So whatever you are experiencing or have experienced in the past, let go of your pride and share it with the world. You never know who you might help…

Reach Out

The pandemic shredded mental health. People’s lives have been altered in ways no one could have predicted. Anxiety, which was already high, is soaring.

We need human connection. People need to be seen and heard. Take the lead and reach out to your friends, family and acquaintances. They will feel appreciated and valued, and you will benefit as well.

Be the one…

An Off Day

Yesterday, I wrote about taking a day off to recharge. Today let’s examine those days when things don’t go as planned.

Everyone has off days. Everyone. I have had them all my life, and there will be more in days to come. But not every day is an off day. It’s important to keep life in perspective, and not hold on too tightly to the dark periods.

Always remember that you have gotten through every difficult time in your life. You are still standing. And you will get through the next bad time, too, if you just keep going…
