Broken

Everywhere you look you can see brokenness. From people to the world we live in, nothing lasts. Yet, it is possible to maintain an optimistic mindset amid the brokenness.

Look for opportunities to serve others. Lifting other people while they are in their own struggles will energize you.

Be a giver, no a taker. Leaders have a servants heart…

Who Are You Listening To?

We talk to ourselves constantly. When we are feeling good about our lives, we encourage ourselves. Have a run of bad luck and the opposite is true.

But which voice are we listening to? My parents told me I would never amount to anything, that I “wasn’t worth a damn.” For a period of my life, I validated their belief. Until I no longer accepted what they said as true.

Sometimes the voices of doubt and insecurity return, but I don’t have to believe them. Neither do you…

Seen

Everyone has a deep desire to be seen and heard. Yet some people don’t believe they are important enough to have a voice. Nothing could be further from the truth.

We were created by God. He doesn’t make mistakes, nor does He second guess himself. If we are important enough to have been thought of by the Creator of the universe, then all of us are important. We weren’t an afterthought.

Be the voice for others until they find their own. You and I are good enough for God, so we are good enough…

Lean In

I like controversy. Seeing the world differently from the masses creates controversial conversations. Growth comes when you view the world through a different prism.

When I go to a store or restaurant, my inclination is to make my server laugh and engage with me a bit. If they have tattoos, piercings everywhere and rainbow colored hair, even better. By connecting with them and leaning in, I’m breaking away from any stereotypes they might have about me. More often than not, my server will say to me that “I’m so different than what they thought I would be like.”

Remember this:when you see someone who looks different, they are someone’s son or daughter. They are important…

Woke

In today’s cultural language, woke means “being alert to racial prejudice and discrimination.” So I thought I might venture out onto the proverbial thin ice and discuss it.

Racism and discrimination exist, no doubt. Are they systemic and rampant? No. They are wrong, and they are taught. No one is born a racist. And people will discriminate for selfish reasons.

Every one of us should stand up against injustice. Every time. Racist behavior is a problem of the heart, as are all societal ills. Only God can change hearts. Let’s leave the heart surgery to Him while we set examples of His love and acceptance while we are here.

Home

Our home is different from our house. Home is the place where memories are made, where we feel safe and secure. A house is where we live, nothing more.

Every problem our world faces is a problem of the heart. The lessons we model for our children, from conflict resolution to how we see and interact with our fellow man are taught at home.

Treat others equally well, show compassion and generosity while doing the right thing. It begins at home…

Lead

Leadership is easy to recognize. People who lead others aren’t born this way, they are developed over time. When their moment comes, they are ready.

Some people try to lead by force or through intimidation. That might work for a short period, but it’s not sustainable.

Simply put, leaders take the reins and do what’s right. They stand up for good and fight against evil. Leaders are oftentimes counter-culture, and don’t “go with the flow.” Being popular isn’t important to them.

Lead well. Be a lion among the sheep, not to harm, but to protect…

Empty Words

Politicians are overachievers when it comes to empty promises. We the people sometimes have short memories, and don’t hold them to their campaign drivel.

We as individuals are responsible for what we say and do. What we say is important, but what we do is even more important. Let’s make sure our words have substance, otherwise let’s not say anything…

Numbers

Churches like to count how many people attend. People want their Facebook post to be liked by many. Television programs get renewed if they have enough viewers.

I’m appreciative for every single person who reads my blog or listens to my podcast. Fortunately, my podcast and my blog reach people in over 100 countries around the world. I can’t control it, yet I know God gets the messages to those who need it when they need it. That’s good enough for me…

Offensive

Political correctness has escalated into everything we “can’t say because we might offend someone.” This has caused people to be overly cautious when engaged in conversations or perhaps giving a public speech.

On the other side of the equation, mankind craves deep, authentic talk. People want to feel free to be themselves.

When we connect with someone, we speak from the heart. When you get your heart right, worthwhile words and actions follow…
