Dictation

No one likes a dictator. You know who I’m talking about. Someone who is a “know it all” who loves to tell you how you should live your life.

When we make changes in our lives, it’s because we have personal reasons for doing so. We are all on a constant quest to improve. But improving ourselves is deeply personal. And when we make advancements we own them.

Listen to others without judging them. It’s up to them to make changes in their lives, for their own reasons. Support them…

Daily Disciplines

Do you have things you do daily that improve your life? I call these daily disciplines. Discipline means training. You get better at whatever you are learning.

I read, exercise and write every day. These have helped me build strength, knowledge and wisdom over the years. I see the changes and I’m encouraged to keep going.

It’s never too late to learn something new…

Unforgivable

People struggle with forgiveness. They allow past hurts to fester and grow, almost taking a life of their own. But forgiveness is vital to the human spirit. Otherwise bitterness and resentment set in. Those will shorten your life, or at least they can prevent you from living fully.

If you are struggling with forgiveness, I encourage you to actively practice gratitude. You will begin to see things through a new lens. And you might find forgiveness in your heart…

Make Room

What occupies your time and energy? Whatever you are focusing on will answer this simple question. We make room in our lives for the things we value.

Another question to consider is whether the people you allow into your life are edifying and enriching to your life. Sometimes we must eliminate distractions to make room for who and what matters most.

It’s decision time…

Pilates

Pilates is an exercise methodology that is practiced by millions worldwide. Pilates was introduced into the world by Joseph Hubertus Pilates. His original program was called Contrology. It was only after his death did the exercise phenomenon take on his name.

Pilates is about mind, body and spirit connection. Breathing into the exercises causes you to focus on your body’s movements and nothing else. It is an intense, full-body workout. It’s great for toning and conditioning the muscles, and Pilates produces perfect posture.

Give Pilates a try if you want to begin an exercise program. You will be glad you did…

Wonder and Awe

Have you ever watched a toddler learn? It’s fascinating. The neurons in their little, developing brains are exploding because new neural pathways are being formed. Everything, and I mean everything, is new to them.

Toddlers are pure-hearted. They want, no, they demand your attention. Little children are simply curious. They want to know how things work.

I encourage you to approach life like a toddler does. View the world as if it is a miracle, because it is…

Objectivity

Are able to look at a situation and see it for what it really is, without bias or prejudice? What about other people? Doing this is an acquired skill.

People are judging constantly. Their opinions are swayed by what they hear from the media and from friends and acquaintances. This misinformation can blind us from the truth.

Clear your mind of judgment. See things as they are, not as you believe them to be. Ask God for help to develop this type of mindset. Freedom from judgment is freedom indeed…

Earn It

We value what we earn. Investing our time and energy into something that produces a worthwhile outcome makes us feel good, makes us proud.

Coasting through life and accepting whatever life sends our way will dull the senses. We need mental stimulation. We need to be challenged. We learn from our mistakes. Success is never a straight line. There are curves, speed bumps and setbacks along the road less traveled. Those who succeed are the ones who keep going.

If you are experiencing a setback in your journey, I encourage you to pick yourself up and move forward. Even a little progress is progress…

Believe It Or Not

People have belief systems. Some of our beliefs are incontrovertible such as gravity or that the earth revolves around the sun. We know these things to be true, whether we understand them or not.

There are other things we want to believe. It doesn’t matter if what we believe is untrue. All that matters is that we believe it. You might believe something about your least favorite politician. You might believe it because you have been blinded by hatred. This will limit you.

Approach life with an open mind. Be willing to question everything. Challenge your beliefs and be open enough to change your mind when necessary…
