Prime Time

The word “prime” means the best. We have Prime Rib, prime location, prime example, Coach Prime and many more. Today I want to talk about prime time.

When we think of prime time, our thoughts might go to television. In that sense it means the time most people are watching television. Or we may think of our age. It’s been written that we are in our prime in our 30’s and 40’s. Does this suggest that life goes downhill from there? I don’t believe so.

You are in the prime time of your life right now. The wisdom and strength you have acquired will serve you well in life. And as you age, you continue to learn and grow. This never stops until you breathe your last.

Focus your thoughts on growing and improving. Look for opportunities to learn new things. Then use what you have to influence the world in a positive way…

I’m Disappointed

Have you ever experienced disappointment? Of course you have. So have I, and I have disappointed other people.

Disappointment is part of life. The world we live in is imperfect. No matter how hard we try we can’t escape disappointment.

The most important person to not disappoint is yourself. Do your best, always. Pick yourself up when things go awry. Keep going during the good times and the bad.

Stay focused on your goals and dreams. Don’t quit when disappointments happen. You will succeed if you refuse to give up…

When Oughta Becomes Shoulda

People say they live their lives with no regrets, but they aren’t telling the truth. Everyone has regrets. Maybe it’s something I said that I wish I could take back. Or something I did. Perhaps I took the easy way out rather than doing what’s right. We are all guilty of this.

When we say “I oughta start exercising or I oughta apologize,” we run the risk of our oughtas becoming shouldas. Someone dies and they pass away with an unresolved conflict between us. Things like this can haunt you for the rest of your life. I should have apologized but now I can’t.

We live in a broken, imperfect world and it always will be. There are some regrets you can head off at the pass. Make the call. Be the bigger person.

Do it today…

The Evolution

Finding out who you are is grueling work. We are more than our possessions, our careers and our zip codes. Those are just things that much of the world uses to measure us.

Everyone is different and has been given unique talents and abilities. Some people are extroverts while others find crowds to be energy draining. Some people come alive in front of a microphone while others freeze when asked to do public speaking. There is no one, right way.

I encourage you to take the time to learn about yourself. That might sound silly but it’s not. People have gotten so busy that they have lost their sense of self. They wake up one day and realize they are living a life of frustration. They want more.

Write down the things you enjoy doing and what you’re good at. Then you have begun the trip down the road less traveled to find your true identity…

Crunch Time

October has arrived. We are in the last three months of 2024. Where has the time gone? It seems like yesterday we were ushering in the new year.

The fourth quarter is when we really ramp up our efforts. We gotta hit those goals we set. Time is of the essence because we are running out of it!

Slow down a little. You can only give 100% no matter how hard you try. Remember to take time for your relationships and make time for yourself. Recharging your mind will make you more effective.

Keep what’s important in the forefront of your mind. And keep going no matter what happens…

I Don’t Need That Kind Of Help

In his book, “The Vision of the Anointed,” Thomas Sowell explains how Congress decides they see something that merits their attention. Millions of dollars are spent studying the “problem,” while countless hours are wasted on something that, many times, was already getting better.

In 1950, less than 3% of people 14 and older were illiterate. The government decided that was too high and decided to get involved. Today, the illiteracy rate is 21%!

In 1960, 20% of black children were born in single parent homes. Congress wrote welfare laws that affected black families disproportionately. The laws were written so that if the welfare applicant had two parents living in the same home, they wouldn’t qualify for help. Fast forward to today and we have 80% of black children being born without a father. Thank God that this is starting to go the other way. Fathers are important.

When Congress decides to involve themselves in problems “only they can solve,” I’m not sure I want their help. My money is on the people. They will solve their problems better than anyone, especially the government…

Misfits

Everyone has felt like they don’t belong sometimes. The crowd wasn’t really your type, you were underdressed, or maybe you were just feeling insecure. All of us have felt that way. Somehow, some way we survived! (Sarcasm)

I believe being a misfit is a good thing. It’s your opportunity to stand out from the crowd, to speak up when others are being silenced. If a child is being harmed or misled, we have one opportunity to put things right. Take the chance and have no regrets.

Being different from the rest is how God made us. He must love variety because different heights, shapes and sizes are all around us!

Embrace the idea of being a misfit. You will be noticed and remembered. Make sure it’s for something worthwhile…

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is a kind of thinking in which you question, analyze, interpret, evaluate and make a judgment about what you read or hear. Great strides in science and technology have happened as a result of critical thought.

Emotions can block critical thinking. When Arnold Schwarzenegger won the governorship of California, people were screaming they wanted an amendment so he could run for president. This was before he even took office! My thoughts at the time were, let’s see how he does as governor before you anoint him with oil.

We should question everything. Now I understand there’s a lot of data thrown our way every day. Select what’s important. Do your research and dig beneath what the media tells you. You can’t trust them to tell you the whole truth. Your innate curiosity will keep you going when others might quit.

Thinking critically is vital for decision making in our lives. It applies to our decisions about our health and our safety. Take the emotion out and simply think…

Prophets

Ever since the beginning of recorded time we have had people who claim to be prophets. Some were real (Samuel, Elijah and others), while the rest are just trying to scam you out of your money. The “Psychic Hotline” is a beaming example.

The frauds are taking advantage of people’s need for hope. Palm readers can’t tell you your future any better than I can. There is one, sure fire way to weed out the fakes: someone who truly gets their gift from God will be right 100% of the time. God cannot lie so He wouldn’t pass along wrong or misleading information to a real prophet.

Find peace in your life by knowing that God has you in his sights all the time. Nothing goes unnoticed. He knows your future down to every minute detail.

Place all your hope in the One who is on your side, and always will be…
