Everyone enjoys happy moments, but that’s what they are, just moments. People pursue happiness, but, and I’m not being negative here, pursuing happiness is futile. Find fulfillment. What fulfills us will keep us going, even during those times we aren’t happy…

The Heart of Mankind
We see posts on Facebook and instagram encouraging us to “follow our hearts,” but that’s bad advice. The heart is deceptive. Therein lies the issue.
Our emotions are reflected by our hearts. Emotions can be tricky, wouldn’t you agree? Perhaps instead of following our feelings we pay attention to our instincts. Our instincts are there for a purpose. They give us pause when danger is near. Our instincts work for good, too.
I encourage you to work on your heart. Are you reacting or responding?
When you get your heart right, worthwhile actions follow…
Leaps and Bounds
Progress is slow, sometimes painfully slow. Other times we grow by leaps and bounds. It’s never just one way or the other. Progress is a mixture of both.
I know this to be true: if you keep working on what you are trying to accomplish, you will succeed. Don’t give up when things go slowly. Your next breakthrough is just around the corner…
When Difficulties Arise
This life has difficulties. I prefer to call them challenges. If you are in a period of life where you are free of major or minor problems, get ready because something is coming.
We have a choice when presented with a challenge. We can shrink from it or we can rise up and meet the challenge. I encourage you to think of challenges as opportunities. That’s right! It’s an opportunity to grow you and strengthen you. Facing difficulties isn’t fun, but you will come out of it a better version of yourself. It’s all about your attitude, how you look at life.
Flip the script on difficult times. In fact, welcome them…
Religion
Religion is defined as, “the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods.” In current culture, the word religion has become a negative term. There’s support for this.
I believe religion is one of the devil’s greatest tools. Many religions have created rules and rituals that don’t necessarily advance God’s Kingdom, but it certainly advances their own. Examine the religious leaders during Jesus’ time on earth. Some (not all) of the Pharisees saw Jesus as a threat to their power over their people. As scholars they should have recognized Jesus as The Messiah but were blinded by their own pride. It’s interesting to note that the demons recognized Jesus as the “Holy Son of God.”
The rules of religion keep people away from church and true worship of Jesus Christ. Thus, this is why religion has, in some cases, become pejorative.
Just follow the teachings of Jesus. He didn’t bring more religion. He restored and redeemed the people. Yes, he performed countless miracles, yet he never benefited personally from them.
And those are my thoughts on organized religion…
Weather
Weather is unpredictable. Life is a lot like the weather when you stop and consider it. Hot one day, cold the next. Always unpredictable. Always fascinating.
We don’t try to control the weather. We can’t. But we try like hell to control our lives. We really aren’t able to control our lives, either. We can only control our attitudes.
Keep your attitude focused on a bright future. Believe it, and you will see it…
Winning
To win is to be victorious. And everyone loves a winner, right?
Yet, if you are reading this in a safe, comfortable environment, you have food to eat, you are healthy and you have people who care about you, you have won. So many people live in poverty, they may not know when they will eat their next meal and they might be alone.
Keep your perspective clear. What you already have is what some people are hoping and praying for…
Intentional
To be intentional means to be purposeful. You do what you do on purpose.
All of us are intentional in some ways. I’m intentional about going to work today, getting some exercise and doing some writing. God willing, those things will happen. If my plans go awry, I won’t panic. I will adapt.
The most intentional person who ever lived was Jesus Christ. He knew who he was, and he knew why he was here. Jesus had things to distract him. He had people trying to kill him. He never wavered. Jesus just kept going until his purpose was fulfilled.
Be intentional with your time. Otherwise you’ll simply drift through life, accepting whatever comes your way. Get laser-focused and stay that way…
Thoughts
2024 has arrived! It’s my wish that you enter the new year with a renewed sense of optimism and hope. No matter what you may be facing in life, your best days lie ahead of you.
Have faith…
Compared to What???
Some people love to compare, don’t they? Yet comparison robs us of so much good. Let’s look a little closer at this.
Contentment goes away when we compare, and gratitude goes along for the ride. The truth is, we have so much to be grateful for. If you have a few dollars in your pocket you are better off than over 99% of the world. If you are alive and reading this, you have eyesight and a working mind. Equipped with assets like those you can conquer anything. You just need to use them, put them to work.
You can get everything you want in this life. Stop comparing yourself to others and get going. You don’t know how far you can go, but just know that you can accomplish your greatest dreams if you’re willing to put in the work…
