Philo Farnsworth

You may have never heard of Philo Farnsworth, yet most people use a device he created every day. Please allow me to tell you more.

Milo was born in Utah in 1906. When he was 12 his family moved to Idaho. The home Milo’s family moved into had electricity, and this became a lifelong obsession for Milo.

As a 14 year old farm boy plowing a field, Milo had an idea. He saw the straight rows he had plowed and thought, “why can’t images be transmitted in lines rather than the complicated spinning discs used at the time?” He drew outlines of his thoughts on the blackboard for his high school chemistry teacher, Justin Tolman. Tolman kept the drawings which eventually were instrumental in winning a patent lawsuit against RCA (another fascinating story).

The electronic television set was invented by a 21 year old boy who had no college education, no connections and very little money. Milo had something more powerful than those things combined. He had a dream.

Dreams are given to us by God. It’s up to us to do the work to bring our dreams to life. The deep purposes imbedded in our hearts are there for a reason. We will find fulfillment when we use our gifts for the betterment of mankind. Dream big, worthwhile dreams and do the work…

Make More Mistakes

In order to do something great with our lives, we must be willing to take risks. “Nothing ventured, nothing gained” as the saying goes. The fear of failure can be a deterrent, but only when you believe you gotta get things right every time.

We learn through our mistakes. When we do something correctly we aren’t required to learn a new, better way. Mistakes and setbacks are part of this imperfect life we are living.

Years ago, I was asked to be a guest teacher for a business principles college class. The curriculum I put together for the class was a list of eighteen lessons I learned during my career from mistakes I had made. We only got through five of them. Teaching the class is something I will always remember.

Success is a growth process. It rarely happens overnight, but it will happen when you work hard, work smart and refuse to quit when things get tough. You must be tougher!

Edison made mistakes. So did Einstein. Musk has blown up a lot of rockets while trying to figure out how to get one into space. We remember these individuals and others for their accomplishments. None of them published a memoir of their mistakes, but they could have.

Be willing to try and fail. Then be willing to try again. And again. And again. Until you find success. A dream without action is a waste…

Your Flight Is Now Boarding…

The airlines have an agreement with me that they sometimes break. When I buy a ticket they agree to honor the ticket with a flight to where I’m going. My part of the agreement is to show up on time. Sometimes I break my agreement, too!

But what about people? There are many people who are going here and there in their lives while not having a destination in mind. They are drifting at light speed. Every new shiny toy catches their attention, at least for a short time.

You must have a dream to propel yourself to greatness. Dreams are powerful. But they are only passing thoughts unless we take action. Putting your dreams in motion ignites something inside of you, an unstoppable force.

If you have lost sight of your purpose, take some time to recapture it. You have greatness inside of you. Feel it in your spirit. Then take action.

The flight of your dreams is taking off. It’s time to board the plane…

It’s Time

What are the dreams you have for your life? And a more important question is, have you given up on them?

No one sets out to be average or mediocre. When we were children we saw ourselves soaring with the stars. Nothing could stop us. We were going to the outer limits and then keep going.

So, what happened? Life happened, that’s what. Dreams are set aside for safety and security. Taking a big chance when you have a mortgage changes the situation. Fear grips you and retreating into the shadows looks very desirable.

It’s time to break free from the fear of failure. Your battle is in your mind and it can be won before you begin if you adopt the proper mindset. Be relentless. Quitting or running away is not an option.

Burn your ships that are moored in the harbor of life. It’s time. There is no going back…

The Mind

Napoleon Hill wrote, “what the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” Theres much power in that statement. Did you know you can trick your mind? It’s true.

Our minds don’t know the difference between reality and fantasy. Visualizing your future self, with emotional conviction, will manifest into reality. The key to success comes from the believing.”

It’s important to remember that this can and will work against you, too. If you focus on failure, doom and gloom, and you emotionalize it, those things will manifest. While you are guarding your heart, guard your thoughts, too.

I encourage you to spend a few minutes visualizing your future self. See yourself succeeding. Pursue your wildest dreams with everything you have in you.

And remember to include God in your visuals. He wants to share in your success…

Take Aim

What are your goals, dreams and desires? Have you written them down?

We are all wired differently. Some people want a simple life without complications. Others don’t mind the challenges a bigger life brings with it. Aiming for the outer limits of the universe is a good thing unless you’re just chasing wealth.

Personally, I ask God to make me famous. As egotistical as this sounds, my reasons are pure. Fame brings a bigger platform than anonymity. I want to use my fame to let the forgotten people, the overlooked and the marginalized know they are important. I want them to feel seen and heard.

I encourage you to take aim at whatever turns you on. Do it for the right reasons. Ask God to open doors for you that were previously closed. If your heart is in the right place, He will.

When you get your heart right, worthwhile actions follow…
