Late Night Entertainment

When I was growing up, The Tonight Show was the show to watch late at night. Johnny Carson hosted with Ed McMahon as his sidekick. Doc Severinson led the band. Carson was a unique talent in comedy and wit. He got his start in entertainment as a magician.

The late night talk shows of today are staid and boring. They operate in one lane: who can tell the next best Trump joke. It’s too bad because people tune in to get away from politics. We are bombarded with it 24/7. Carson picked on many politicians, but did so in a gentlemanly way.

Stephen Colbert used to be hilarious. His “The Colbert Show” on Comedy Central had great guests. Colbert has a quick wit that seems lost today. He still has the talent inside of him and I hope he finds it again.

Entertainers of today believe they need to weigh in on politics. They, like the rest of the population, have an opinion but that’s it. And I have never heard anyone say, “I was watching “The View” and thought those ladies made a lot of sense.

Our world needs to laugh. We are becoming a society that takes itself too serious. Lighten up, world. Laughter is good for you…

Humor Me

As you probably know, I love to laugh and make others laugh. Humor is a healthy emotion. Yet, I see some people who have lost their sense of humor.

Politicians are easy to make fun of. Elizabeth Warren claimed that she was an American Indian. She made this ridiculous claim for decades until she was challenged to take a DNA test. She’s not an Indian.

Bernie Sanders used to be in charge of the Senate Budget Committee. The man has never set a budget in his life. And he has no budget constraints because he thinks everything should be free! That math only works in Washington.

Some people think I’m being unfair when I joke about their favorite politician. It’s just a joke, nothing more. The offended people are free to make fun of me, and I give them plenty of material!

There’s always something to laugh about. Keep the humor clean, not dark-hearted. Laughter is really good for us.

God laughs, too. I’m certain that He laughs at me daily. But that’s okay. I’m making the Creator of the Universe smile!

Play on Words

Sometimes a play on words is funny. Like when you provide comfort to a grammar freak: “there, their, they’re.” Goofy stuff like this makes me laugh.

Words have meaning. Actions have meaning. When they don’t align then they are hollow. Some of us had parents whose actions didn’t follow what they said. This created confusion in our brains because our parents were our first teachers.

Be careful with what you say. People pay attention and they can see what we do. Never allow your emotions to take over your words. Stay calm in the chaos.

There are good people in this world who say little but accomplish much. Follow their lead. They are solid.

I leave you with this:

The Babylon Bee

The Babylon Bee is a satire site and it’s hilarious. Satire is defined as, “the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.”

Politicians give a guy like me a lot to work with. Some of the things they say are either outrageous or pandering. They love to talk down to us to remind us how smart they are. Yet, they have managed to put us $36 trillion in debt. Who’s the smart people?

And some religious leaders have their own share of ridiculousness. One popular “clergyman” has a fleet of private jets and said, “God told him he wanted him to have those jets.” (And no, it wasn’t Joel Osteen). I can’t prove it, but I doubt God told him that!

We need to laugh to get through life. Take a look at The Babylon Bee if you dare. But be prepared! They might make fun of your favorite politician!

    An Observation

The theme of my blog and my podcast is to spread encouragement, strength and hope to a world in desperate need of it. From the feedback you have given me, I know I am making a difference. But I want to do more.

The top podcast category is comedy. Over 20% of listeners spend their time in that genre. This reminds me that the world needs to laugh. So, as best as possible, I will introduce more humor into my work. In person I’m funny as hell with a genuine ability to tell funny stories. Let’s see if I can pull it off.

I appreciate everyone who reads my daily posts and listens/watches my podcast. You are special to me.

Let me know how I do. I’m certain I will hear from you…
