Never Enough

Every time I hear a pathetic, pandering politician talking about “paying your fair share,” I want to slap them back to reality. Let’s look at some simple math.

Over the past 20 years, the government has collected about $80 trillion dollars in taxes from all sources. Yet, the same government has spent over $110 trillion during the same period. Can you imagine what shape taxpayers would be in if we ran our household budgets the same way?

Perhaps our members of Congress would be more effective if they spent our money carefully. Every year, the government reports hundreds of billions of improper payments from Medicare and Medicaid alone. Is there no oversight? Government could learn a few things about running government more like a business than a never-dying bureaucracy.

The philanthropic world gets it right. The faith community, too. They budget wisely and use their money from donations well. There are outliers, of course, but they are a small percentage. Personally, I would rather give much of what I pay in taxes to them rather than the government. Their track records speak for themselves.

This out of control spending isn’t sustainable. We can grow our way through this, and that means lowering income taxes, putting more money in the pockets of the consumers. Consumer spending makes up over 70% of our economy. Raising taxes squeezes the ones who drive economic growth.

The politicians are about to hit us up for donations. The midterms are on the horizon. I have never donated to a politician. If I want to waste my money, I’m heading to Las Vegas!
